Falls and the Older Adult: A Holistic Approach to Identifying and Managing Risks and Consequences
This workshop addresses the many issues that lead to falls in the elderly and will provide attendees with risk analysis and risk management methods. Emphasis will be on individualized client assessment and prevention strategies that are both realistic and functional. Time will be spent identifying the holistic after-effects of a fall on the older person as well as creative approaches to minimizing the likelihood of future falls.

Description: Among older adults, falls are the leading cause of
injury deaths, and they are also the most common cause of non-fatal
injuries and hospital admissions for trauma. This workshop will address
the many issues that lead to falls in the elderly and will provide
students with various methods of risk analysis and options for managing
those risks. Emphasis will be on individualized client assessment and
prevention strategies that are both realistic and functional. Time will
be spent identifying the holistic after-effects of a fall on the older
person as well as creative approaches to minimizing the likelihood of

Instructor: Vicki Anensen-McNealley earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Washington State University and her master's in nursing from the University of Washington. She also holds a PhD in holistic nutrition from Clayton College. She has vast experience educating practical and associate-degree nursing students at a local community college, as well as educating nurses and administrators in the assisted living and nursing home arenas in Washington State. She is passionate about issues concerning the aging population and designs courses and educational manuals for professionals working in long term care settings.
Contact Hours: This program meets accreditation standards for 3.8 Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) hours; 3.8 Professional Guardian Board Hours; and 3.8 CEU's by the NASW Washington State Chapter (Provider number 197-288).
Fee: $69 per person or group rate available (4 for the price of 3).
**In the event of class cancellation: if class is not held for any reason (inclement weather, low enrollment, etc.), registrants will be notified and fees paid will be refunded.
